The month of May is a time to recognize the hard work and heart work of foster parents, child service professionals, volunteers, policymakers, and other members of the community who make a difference in the lives of children in foster care. During National Foster Care Month, we encourage all community members to participate in efforts to raise awareness about Therapeutic Foster Care and celebrate all those who serve these children throughout the year.

Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families.

At SCYAP, we believe a home should be a safe and nurturing environment where each child can grow to his or her fullest potential. Unfortunately, however, many children in our state and nation have experienced or at risk of experiencing abuse and/or neglect. Latest figures from the South Carolina Department of Social Services show that in 2013 there were almost 30,000 reports of child abuse and/or neglect made. Even 1 report is 1 too many!
